(16)Spires Upset Bid Comes Up Short Over (12)Vikings

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – TheUniversity of Saint Mary women's wrestling team that is ranked 16th in the polls came up short in their upset over (12)Grand View. The Vikings defeated Saint Mary 27-20 inside Ryan Sports Center Friday night in their final home dual of the season.

The Spires are now 1-7 overall and 0-1 in the KCAC.

Grand View got off to a hot start as they took the first five matches, three of which were by forfeit, and two were by tech fall. Allyssa Bettencourt gave the Spires their first points of the evening after a win by forfeit at the 136-pound weight class.

Going into the final three matches of the evening, Saint Mary trailed 27-5 before making their comeback. Emilee Demann and Megan Dougherty each picked up wins by forfeit at the 155-pound, and 170-pound weight class. April Penn concluded the evening by making a quick move to take McKenzie Kent down and get the pin in 1:30.

The Spires will travel to Ottawa, Kan. Saturday to take on Ottawa University at 7 p.m.
