Spires Slip To Hot Start Falcons

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Friends University as the Falcons defeated the Spires, 85-66 after getting off to a fast start inside the Garvey Center Wednesday night.

The Spires are now 12-12 overall and 8-12 in the KCAC.

Friends took control in the early part of the contest grabbing a 12-3 lead. They then took a 15-7 lead, but the Spires chipped away after Donovan Sinegal and Raylon Howard combined for the team's next eight points. The high scoring first half would continue as both teams went over 30 points. The Falcons would hold the advantage however, as they led by double digits through the final six minutes. Friends led 50-37 at halftime.

Saint Mary tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but Friends was able to hold off the Spires. The Falcons led by double-digits throughout the second half and rode to a 85-66 win.

Sinegal scored a career high 21 points and Luke Mackey added 11. Tevin Killeen chipped in nine points and had a game high six rebounds.

The Spires continue their road trip when they travel to Salina, Kan. to take on Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
