Baseball Drops Two Against (3)Drovers

CHICKASHA, OK. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team dropped both games to a tough (3)University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on the road Saturday to open the season. They fell 13-0 and then 8-1.

The Spires are now 0-2 overall.

Saint Mary struggled to hit the ball against the Drovers bull pin as they had two hits in the first game. In the first inning, Daunte Freeman reached first after the defense bobbled the ball and could not make the throw. The Spires held them scoreless during the Drovers first time at bat, but they would then score at least two runs throughout the next five innings. Oscar Osorio had a shot center in the fourth, but that would be the only offensive action for the rest of the game.

In the second game, the Spires continued to struggle to get on base. The Drovers led 1-0 going into the bottom of the third inning, where they scored four runs to build their lead. In the fourth inning, Freeman jacked one into the outfield that was dropped and he was able to advance to third. He would eventually score to keep the Spires from being shut out. The Drovers would score three more runs to secure the win.

Freeman had two hits. Damian Lomeli and Osorio each had one hit. Korbin Hiebert and Adrian Cardenas each had three strikeouts on the mound.
