SALINA, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team faced tough competition Saturday afternoon against No. 19 Kansas Wesleyan University. The Spires ran into a hot-shooting Coyotes squad where they fell 101-53 inside Mabee Arena.
The Spires are now 4-21 overall and 4-17 in the KCAC.
The Spires faced an uphill battle as Kansas Wesleyan started the first quarter going up 25-8. Macy Walker, Katie Robinson and Danielle Cassady connected a string of baskets in the second quarter early on. KWU stayed hot though and took a 45-22 at halftime.
Saint Mary struggled early on in the third quarter, as the Coyotes continued to connect. KWU would ride the momentum and go on to win. Kansas Wesleyan shot 53.7 percent, while the Spires posted a 33.3 field goal percentage.
Cassady and Walker posted double-figure points with 13 and 12 respectively. Walker and Robinson each had seven rebounds
