LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team returned to action Wednesday night inside the Ryan Sports Center after a two month layoff, where they fell to Tabor College 74-55.
The Spires are 1-2 overall and 1-1 in KCAC play.
Both teams traded baskets early on before Tabor grabbed an 11-7 lead with 3:58 remaining in the first quarter. The Spires struggled from the field the rest of the quarter and trailed 17-7 after one. Tabor would hold the advantage in the second quarter and led 29-17 at halftime.
Saint Mary chipped away at the lead early in the third quarter as Daija Planas knocked down two quick baskets. Jerrica Johnson would later score four straight points to put the Spires within six points with 4:02 remaining in the third period. The Spires however were unable to make a run as the BlueJays grabbed a 15-point lead after three quarters. Tabor would use the fourth quarter to run away in the end.
Johnson led the Spires with 17 points and Planas added 12.
