Spires Win On The Road 68-63

LAWRENCE, KS. The University of Saint Mary Spires men's basketball team traveled on the road to face off against the Haskell Indian Nations University basketball team in Lawrence, KS Friday night. In a close match to the end the Spires were able to edge out the victory in a 68-63 final score.

The Spires are now (3-1) on the 2021-22 season.

The Spires came out ready to play in this one. Christian Carmichael, Deshaud St. Martin, Diego Lucas, Cameron Southern, and Brad Hailey were the lsited starters for the Spires. After winning the jump ball, Carmichael scored a quick jumper, giving the Spires the lead and setting the tone for the Indain Nations. St. Martin and Hailey led the Spires in points through the first half while Carmichael would go on to have a big second half to help the Spires close out the victory. The defense showed out today, especially from Elias Akele who went on to have half of the Spires steals in 11 minutes from the bench, while also contributing 3 points to the team total. Carmichael would end the night filling the box score with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 assist on 45% shooting.

The Spires will be back in action on November 13, when they host Park University in the Ryan Sports Center at 2:00PM.
