Kansas City, Mo. - The University of Saint Mary baseball team fell just short against Avila University today, 8-7.
Saint Mary is now 3-21 overall and 3-11 in the KCAC.
The Eagles started off hot in the bottom of the first and scored seven runs to lead the Spires, 7-0. The Spires looked to chip away and scored four runs in the top of the fifth thanks to a couple of key hits and two run rbi single by Daniel Gonzales, 7-4. The Spires seemed to stop the Eagles offensively and looked to continue their comeback. In the top of the seventh the Spires tied it all up thanks to a huge two run rbi single by Myles Thompson, 7-7. The Eagles were able to answer back in the bottom of the eighth to break the tie, 8-7. The Spires looked to answer back but were unsuccessful and fell to Avila, 8-7.
Thompson collected two hits and Gonzales lead the team with two hits and three RBIs.
