Flag Football Opens Season Against NCAA Division I Florida

OTTAWA, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary flag football team opened their 2021 season at Ottawa University, but took on NCAA Division I University of Florida Sunday morning. The Spires would fall in the end 46-0.

The Gators would score three touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead. Shian Galbreath would complete three straight passes to try and give the Spires momentum, but the Gators defense forced a turnover to stall the drive.

After another touchdown by Florida in the second quarter, the Spires tried to get things going as Anaya Hooks and Jerrica Johnson each carried handoffs. Saint Mary would be forced to punt however and trailed 33-0 at the break.

The Spires would hold the Gators to 13 points in the second half, but were unable to find the end zone on their side.

Galbreath led the passing attack with 111 yards and also had seven rushing yards along with Hooks. Shannon Cooley had 38 receiving yards.
