LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary softball team fell in two games to Oklahoma Wesleyan today by scores of 6-5 and 8-0 in five innings.
The Spires are now 11-26 overall and 6-12 in the KCAC on the season.
GAME 1
Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to a 6-1 lead through the first six innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Spires offense started to ramp up their comeback attempt, as Allyson Dias hit a double down the right field line with two outs to bring home Isabelle McCarty.
Saint Mary would have a chance in the seventh inning and after a couple miscues from the Eagles, they plated a run on an error. Hailey Reece came into score after singling earlier in the inning. Faz would then double to bring home Reghan Ross as the Spires cut the deficit to two at 6-4. Carmen Cordova stepped up to the plate later and hit an infield single to bring home Faz.
The Eagles would escape the jam however and took the first game by a score of 6-5.
Reece had three hits for the Spires and Ross knocked in two runs.
GAME 2
The Spires struggled in the second game as the Eagles jumped on the scoreboard often and early. OKWU was able to score eight runs in the first five innings to end the game due to run-rule.
