York, Neb. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team finished off its season on a high note with a win against York College Sunday, 11-9.
Saint Mary concludes the year at 9-40 overall and 8-25 in the KCAC.
The Spires started off first with a single to center field by Oscar Osorio to score Peyton Garvin, 1-0. The Panthers were able to gain the lead in the top of the second and scored two runs, 2-1. The Spires answered right backs thanks to a pair of RBI doubles by Osorio and Garvin, 3-2. The Panthers took no time to catch up and gained the lead again with two runs in the bottom of the third, 4-3. Heading into the top of the fourth the Spires were able to gain the lead again thanks to a three run home run by Kawika Hubbell, 6-4. The Panthers were able to add another run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Spires had another big inning in the top of sixth with two players Osorio and Steele Sadler each collected two run home runs, 10-5. The Panthers weren't discouraged and continued to chip away as the game headed into the bottom of the seventh, 11-9. The Panthers looked to push offensively but thanks to a home run robbery by Sadler the Spires were able to win the series over York College, 11-9.
Osorio led the offense with three hits and four RBIs and Garvin collected four hits with one RBI.
