SPIRES EDGE BULLDOGS IN 2-1 VICTORY

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team traveled down to McPherson College today for an afternoon grudge match. Following a long morning drive, the Spires came to play putting together a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs to notch their first win of the season.

Saint Mary is now 1-4-2 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.

To start the game, the Spires fell behind as the Bulldogs took possession of the ball quickly scoring the first goal of the game within the first 3 minutes. Following that score, the Spires woke up and battled through to the end of the first half. Though not being able to make something happen on offense, they held the Bulldogs on their own territory.

Heading into the second half the Spires went into stealth mode. As head coach Justin Seever said, "Other than the starting goal, we were locked down on defense throughout the match".

The Spires were as aggressive on offense as they were on defense. Within the first 5 minutes of the second half, Katy S. Martin scored the game-tying goal making it 1-1. Then 15 minutes later, Hannah Day scored what would end up being the game-winning goal for the Spires.

Coach Seever was proud of the way the ladies performed today stating, "It was great for the team to get a road conference victory. Our hard work the past few weeks has finally been rewarded. Katy S. Martin found the tying goal early in the second half and Hannah Day opened her Spire account with the game-winner. Morgan Young was in on both assists, adding a much-needed dynamic to our attack. A good day for Spire soccer. Looking forward to getting back on the training field Monday to get ready for Ottawa next week!"

With that road victory in the Spires pocket, they will head home and get ready for their next match up on the road against the Braves at Ottawa University on September 29th at 5 pm.
