LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from Karleigh Enyart, but Park was able to score with 12 minutes left in regulation to tie the match. Neither team could find the net in the two overtime periods as the two teams would play to a 1-1 tie at Berkel Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Maea Ploetz also recorded 16 saves to tie the second-best mark in program history for most saves in a game.
Saint Mary is now 0-1-1 overall.
Park was able to get some early shots off in the first half, but Saint Mary was the first to connect as Enyart got a ball behind the defense and chipped it over the Pirates' goalkeeper's head to give the Spires a 1-0 lead.
The game would stay at 1-0 leading into halftime. The Pirates came out shooting in the second half, but Maea Ploetz was able to make a few stops to keep the advantage, Spires. Later in the 79th minute, Park's Lenvix Ochieng tied the game at 1-1. Park nearly scored a second goal in the first overtime period, but the ball hit the crossbar. Saint Mary was unable to capitalize as well and the game would end in a draw.
Enyart led the team with one goal and three total shots. Dianne Rubio and Taylor Swofford also had one shot in the game. and Ploetz had 16 saves.
Saint Mary returns to action on Sept. 10 when they host Presentation College at 6 p.m.
