Rangel Scores Twice in Spires Third Straight Win

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team hosted York University Saturday night, winning by a score of 5-1. Saint Mary is now 7-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the KCAC.

Just two minutes into Saturday's contest, the Spires got on the board after an amazing free kick from Jan Stachura found the back of the net and gave them the 1-0 lead. Each team got more chances as time progressed through the first half, and just before the thirty-minute mark Anthony Rangel put Saint Mary up 2-0 after a cross from Romario Harding. The Panthers had an answer with ten minutes to go in the period and got on the board to cut the Spire's lead in half. Then just three minutes before halftime, Rangel scored his second goal of the night to make the score 3-1 heading into halftime.

The Spires continued to apply offensive pressure to York throughout the second half but could not get another goal. As the final twenty minutes of the contest began, Saint Mary scored two more times after a long goal from Ramiro Vasquez and a header by Kolby Shuck on a corner kick. This gave the Spires a 5-1 lead and sealed a win for them. Rangel led the Spires on offense with two shots on goal and two goals on the night.
