Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on York University for a weekend matchup, resulting in a 2-0 win over the Panthers. The Spires are now 3-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the KCAC.
The game started slowly as both teams were struggling to gain an advantage on offense. Saint Mary and York traded shots later in the half with none getting past the goalies. It wasn't until the thirty-fourth minute when Morgan Young found the back of the net with the assist coming from Kadejah Ross. The Spires took the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
York came out with a strong offensive attack putting multiple shots on goal with none finding the back of the net. Saint Mary was defending a 1-0 lead for the majority of the second half. In the eighty-seventh minute, Grace Runyan found Katy St. Martin, who put the Spires up 2-0. Goalie Maea Ploetz helped Saint Mary's defensive day with three saves on goal.
