Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team hosted the Friends Falcons Saturday, winning by a score of 3-2. Before the game, four seniors were honored for the dedication and hard work they had given to the program. Saint Mary finished the year 10-3-3 overall and 8-2-2 in the KCAC, earning a second-place finish and winning the most conference games in program history.
Paul Trejo got the Spires off to a fast start scoring in the first two minutes of the game, giving Saint Mary a 1-0 lead. The Spires continued to apply pressure on the Falcons, with Trejo and Romario Harding narrowly missing out on scoring opportunities. Right before halftime, Guilherme Caldas extended the Saint Mary lead to 2-0 after burying a cross from Trejo in the back of the net.
Coming out of the half, Friends cut the Spire's lead to 2-1 after an early goal. The Falcons used some of their built-up momenta to continue to threaten Saint Mary, but Come Grieu held strong in front of the net. Saint Mary had an answer with fifteen minutes to go, as Harding dribbled around multiple defenders in the box and finished it with a goal, giving the Spires a 3-1 lead. Friends would get one more goal, making for a tense final ten minutes, but the Saint Mary defense held, securing the 3-2 win.
