Men's Soccer Holds off Kansas Wesleyan To Win 2-1

Salina, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team took on Kansas Wesleyan in a mid-week matchup Wednesday night, ending in a 2-1 win. The Spires improve their record to 5-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary controlled most of the first period, having multiple set pieces and taking shot after shot. However, none of these shots found the back of the net, and the score held at 0-0. The Coyotes had chances of their own towards the end of the half but were also unable to as the game went into halftime scoreless.

The Spires continued the offensive pressure in the second period. Right before the sixty-minute mark, Saint Mary broke through and took a 1-0 lead after a goal from Romario Harding. Kansas Wesleyan answered ten minutes later with a goal of their own to tie things up at 1-1. Jose Acosta broke the deadlock three minutes later, being assisted by Ramiro Vasquez, giving the Spires a 2-1 advantage over the Coyotes. The Spires held on to seal the 2-1 victory over Kansas Wesleyan.

"Great to have the win, especially the conference win," said Head Coach Derek Mazeitis.
