York, Neb.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team played against the York Panthers for a weekend matchup, resulting in a 47-67 loss. The Spires are now 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the KCAC.
Joe Burgos got Saint Mary going with two threes and a mid-range jumper to tie things up at 10-10 just five minutes in. Cam Southern and Quentin Williams also had threes, giving the Spires a two-point lead. Saint Mary then went on a 14-2 scoring run that kept them in the game, down just 31-30. Southern made his free throws late in the first half to send the Spires into the locker down 37-36.
Saint Mary hung with the Panthers throughout the second half. Staying within six points of York and eventually tied things up and 60-60 after Williams sunk a layup. York went on a scoring run of their own late in the game that helped them pull away and beat the Spires 74-67.
Deshaud St. Martin had his second double-double of the season, while Burgos had 20 points for the Spires.
