Wichita, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team took on the Friends Falcons Wednesday evening, losing 77-63. The Spires are now 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the KCAC.
Cam Southern scored the first six points for the Spires after a jump shot, a three-pointer, and a free throw made the score 7-6 in favor of the Falcons. Luke Mackey gave Saint Mary the lead with a three right after that as the Spires kept the score close throughout the first half. A late scoring run from Friends gave them a decent lead, but a three from Blake Chadwick gave the Falcons a small cushion heading into the half.
Each team went on a small scoring run to open the half that ended with a Mackey three that put Saint Mary down 48-46 with 12 minutes to go. The Spires soon found themselves down ten with five minutes left after the offensive pressure from the Falcons increased. Deshaud St. Martin and Mackey hit jump shots to hold the Friends lead at ten, but with time running down, they could not chip away at the lead. St Martin led the Spires with 14 points on the night, and Quentin Williams had his first double-double of the season with ten points and ten assists.
