Leavenworth, KS- The University of Saint Mary baseball team fell to the Ottawa University Braves Tuesday by a score of 23-5.
The Spires held the Braves scoreless in the first inning with pitcher Ryan Bailes starting on the right foot retiring the first three batters in order. Ottawa quickly responded with a five run second inning and did not stop there. After a nine run, third inning pitcher Korbin Hiebert came in to stop the bleeding and get the Spires out of the inning. As the game went on the Spires found a spark in the batter's box and put up four runs in the fourth and one in the sixth forcing Braves starter Josh Perez out of the contest. Cale Fields came in late for the Spires and led the team with three strikeouts on the day.
The Spires look to bounce back today on the road at 5 p.m. against William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.
