Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played the Sterling Warriors in a Saturday doubleheader to conclude their weekend series.
Game 1
The Spires got on the board first in game one when Keaton Herron hit a triple that drove in a run to give them a 1-0 lead. Sterling got a run back in the top of the second on a wild throw from the Spires catcher to tie up the game. Starter Ryan Bailes went seven and one-third innings giving up just four hits and two runs and striking out three for the Spires.
Kruz Wahwahsuck would give Saint Mary the lead in the third after he hit a single that drove in two runs to make it 3-1. The Warriors would get their final run of the game in the fifth after a solo home run put Sterling within one run of Saint Mary. The Spires would get two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 5-2.
Then in the eighth inning, Saint Mary would take a commanding lead scoring seven runs. The inning was highlighted by home runs from both Preston Gibson and Kawika Hubbell to go up by ten and end the game. Brendan Roop, Peyton Garvin, Wahwahsuck, and Hubbell all had multiple RBIs in game one to help lead the Spires to victory.
Game 2
Saint Mary would once again take an early lead getting one run across in the bottom of the first. The run came after Samuel Yancey hit into a double play that scored Bryan Fuentes to give the Spires the lead. Starter Peyton Garvin went six innings for Saint Mary, giving up five runs and striking out three.
The Spire's offense would slow down as the game went on, and in the fourth, Sterling would score four runs to give them a 4-1 lead. The Warriors would get two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to go up 6-1. The Spires would attempt to chip away at the deficit in the bottom half of the seventh after a Roop solo home run made the score 6-2. Saint Mary would not be able to get the rest of the runs back and fell to the Warriors 6-2. Roop also led the team on offense in game two going one for three with an RBI and a run.

The Spires will host Ottawa University to conclude their mid-week series with the Braves at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at home.
