Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team took on the Ottawa Braves Saturday, losing 79-58. The Spires are now 5-11 overall and 1-9 in the KCAC.
Saint Mary started slow, finding themselves down nine points at the halfway point of the period. However, a Three pointer from Braylen Duncan sparked a 13-3 run that got the Spires right back into the game with the score being 28-27. Luke Mackey tied things up at 30 after a deep three with just under three minutes to go. The Brave made two late buckets to go into halftime, holding a 35-30 lead.
The Spires came out of halftime determined to take the lead. Cam Southern scored seven of the next 15 points for the Spires as they went up 45-44 with 13 minutes to go. Ottawa answered with a 15-3 scoring run of their of and took a 12-point lead that stood for the rest of the game. Tate Brown scored the last five of eight points for the Spires who fell by a score of 79-58. Southern had 12 total points on the day with six rebounds as well.
