Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on Tabor College on Saturday, resulting in a 1-1 tie. The Spire's overall record is now 5-2-5 and 5-0-4 in conference play.
After a shot by Tabor went wide right in the opening minute, Abbie Rodgers had a chance to give the Spires the early lead. However, Tabor's goalie saved the shot to keep the game scoreless. Three straight shots by the Spires also failed to hit the back of the net. Finally, in the 34th minute, Diana Aguilar put USM on the board with her goal. As the half came to a close, Tabor got three shots off, one of which was on goal, where Marisol Vargas stepped up big for the save.
Vargas continued her stout defensive play to begin the second half, recording three straight saves. As both teams traded shots down the stretch, Tabor eventually scored to tie the game in the 73rd minute. Nanako Hallier's shot with seven minutes left was the last one Saint Mary took, resulting in a save for Tabor and a match draw. Vargas recorded ten saves on the day, while Karleigh Enyart had three shots on goal.
