Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Volleyball team played the Tabor Blue Jays on Saturday, resulting in a three-set win. The Spires are now 17-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Both teams traded points to open the first set. The Bluejays had an early lead erased by the Spires. Keagan Shockley got a set by Abby Hairell to start the 4-0 run that made it 11-10. Saint Mary took all the momentum later in the set to make the final score 25-18, giving them the advantage.
Saint Mary picked up right where they left off, going on a 5-1 run. The Blue Jays made a few mistakes on defense, putting the Spires ahead 12-7. Rylee Kenitzer and Maddie Folsom dominated on offense, helping Saint Mary win 25-17, giving the Spires the advantage.
The Spires came out for the third set looking to sweep the Bluejays and continue their aggressive offense with lockdown defense. After a little hiccup in the middle of the set, the Spires locked in and beat the Bluejays 25-18, giving them the overall win. Kenitzer had 13 kills, adding to her record-breaking year, and Shockley had 14 kills with 13 digs.
