McPherson, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team traveled to play the McPherson Bulldogs, resulting in a 2-2 tie. The Spires finished the year with an overall record of 5-7-6 and 4-5-4 in the KCAC and will appear in the post-season conference tournament for the third time in four years.
Saint Mary put the Bulldogs on their heels early, with two shots and a corner kick in the first ten minutes of play. At the 20-minute mark, the Spires nearly jumped out in front with two quick shots, but the McPherson goalie made back-to-back saves. Marco Vernazza nearly scored in the last two minutes of the half, but another save from the Bulldogs goalie sent the game tied at zero heading into the break.
Romario Harding opened the scoring twenty minutes into the second half to give the Spires a 1-0 lead. McPherson responded with a goal ten minutes later to tie the game up at one apiece. Three minutes later, Guilherme Caldas put Saint Mary on top to make it a 2-1 game. The Bulldogs tied the game again just one minute later. Saint Mary was not able to score one more time to secure the win, as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
