Men's Basketball Wins Big Over Bobcats

Lawrence, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team played College of the Ozarks for a non-conference matchup on Friday, resulting in a 94-66 win. The Spires are now 4-2 overall on the season. 

 

College of the Ozarks jumped ahead quickly in the first five minutes of the game, going up 17-9 on the Spires. Saint Mary responded a few minutes later with a 13-1 scoring run that started and ended with a three from Bryce Johnson. Like that, the Spires had flipped momentum and held a 26-19 lead with 11 minutes to go in the half. Demarius Houston and Deshaud St. Martin helped keep the Bobcats at bay by making time threes. Tysen Brennan hit another three, and St. Martin made a free throw to convert his and-one to head into halftime with a 51-36 lead. 

 

After the break, St. Martin and Tre Alexander opened the scoring to build a 19-point lead over the Bobcats. Johnson strung together five straight points later in the half to make the score 70-47 in favor of the Spires. Saint Mary continued to score at will, putting up 21 more points before the buzzer to make it a 91-51 final. Johnson had a career-high in points with 25 on the day, while St. Martin had 15 points with six rebounds.

The Spires will finish the weekend against Navajo Tech University at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in Lawrence, Kansas.
