Lamoni, Iowa.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team opened play in the Pizza Ranch Classic against Dordt University, resulting in a 91-51 loss. The Spires are now 2-1 overall on the year.
After each team scored two quick points to open the game, Dordt took the lead and began to build on it, going up 12-6 with three minutes left in the first quarter. Saint Mary could not match the shooting of the Defenders and began to fall further behind. Tanea Sims got the Spires back on the board with a layup to make it a ten-point game with a little over a minute left in the first quarter.
Demi Aamold opened the scoring for the Spires in the second quarter with a three to make it 32-16 game. A Layup from Alanis Delgado cut the Dordt lead to 20 with a little over three minutes left in the second. Keeley Barnard hit the last shot of the half for the Spires with a jump shot, making it a 42-22 game heading into the break.
Dordt continued to score at will in the second half, building a 29-point lead partway through the third quarter. The Spires had a quick burst of life on offense to start the fourth quarter with back-to-back threes from Delgado and Katelynn Ostronic. After another big quarter for the Defenders, the game ended with a final score of 91-51.
