Marshall, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Wrestling team competed in the Missouri Valley Open on Friday and Saturday, resulting in a third-place finish for Alexsys Jacquez and a fourth-place finish for Lessly Sandoval.
Jacquez won her first two weekend matches, one by decision 6-4 and the other by tech fall 10-0. After a loss in the quarter-final round, Jacquez strung together five straight wins, two by tech fall and two by decision, to finish in third place overall in the 109 weight class.
Araya Boday and Ariana Mercado went 1-2 on the weekend in the 130 and 143 weight classes. Allison King won her opening match by tech fall, outscoring her opponent 10-0. However, losses in the consolation bracket ended King's strong start to the weekend/
Sandoval won her first match of the weekend by tech fall 10-0, but a loss in the second round sent her to the consolation bracket. She navigated through the lower part of the bracket, winning two matches by fall and three others by decision (6-2, 7-1, and 2-1). In the third-place match, Sandoval lost by fall shortly after the start of the second period, taking fourth place overall.
