Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling program took on Avila University in a dual on Thursday night, resulting in a 29-22 win. The Spires are now 4-1 in duals this year.
Austin Almaguer (149) and Josey Jernegan (157) gave Saint Mary a quick ten-point lead over the Eagles, with Almaguer winning by fall and Jernegan by major decision. The Spires left the 165 weight class vacant and suffered losses in the 174 and 185 classes, making it a 17-10 dual. Ryker Blackburn (197) responded with a win by fall in his match, cutting into the Eagle's lead. After a loss in the heavyweight class, Saint Mary rattled off four straight wins. Brody Gee (125) won his match by tech fall, while Freddy Barajas and Hartwell Taylor won by major decision to secure a 29-22 dual win.
