Spires Go 1-1 on Sunday, Winning Series 2-1

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team finished their series with a Sunday doubleheader, going 1-1 on the day. The Spires are now 2-1 overall this season.

Game One

Saint Mary's rout of the Yellowjackets started when Sophomore right fielder Jordan McClellan doubled, sending his younger brother Caleb McClellan home.

From there the floodgates would open as the Spires would dominate the yellowjackets scoring eight more times in the second and third innings, with two runs from Damon Siefer, Keaton Herron, Ben Brandt, and two more from the younger McClellan during those innings.

After a 9-0 start, Saint Mary finally conceived a run but it was too late as they would go on to score two more runs from Brandt Brendan Roop to finish the first game in the doubleheader dominantly.

Game Two

In the final game of the day, starter Noah Parra went five innings giving up just two hits and striking out four. Graceland's starter also held the Spires at bay, throwing six hitless innings with eight strikeouts. Things fell apart for Saint Mary in the top of the ninth, giving up five runs, three of them coming off a two-out home run. The Spires were unable to get the bats going in the bottom half of the inning, bringing an end to the game and series.
