Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played William Penn on Monday, resulting in an 8-6 loss. The Spires are now 5-6 overall on the year.
Saint Mary struck first in the bottom of the second after an RBI single from Caleb McClellan. The Statesmen answered in the top half of the third, scoring five runs and taking a 5-1 lead. Saint Mary was not able to get any runs in the fourth, but in the fifth inning, the Spires rattled off five runs with RBI singles coming from Bryce Turner and Ben Brandt to make it a 7-6 ball game. Saint also capitalized on a fielding error by the Statesmen and an RBI double hit by Gilbert Rondon. In the top of the sixth, William Penn got on more run across the plate, giving them a two-run cushion heading into the final two innings. McClellan went four for four at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
