Spires Top Cleary University 5-4 in Last Day of USSSA Space Coast Tournament

The Spires struck first to start the game as Allyson Dias hit a sacrifice fly to center field that drove in Alexis McDaniel. Saint Mary then built their lead in the second inning, as Brittnee Wimbish hit an RBI single to left field, making the score 2-0. Over the next three innings, Cleary was able to chip away at the Spire's lead to go up by one run.

 

Saint Mary did not flinch as they responded with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from McDaniel, giving the Spires a two-run cushion. Cleary was able to answer with another run scored in the bottom of the sixth, but the Saint Mary defense held on to win 5-4. McDaniel went two for three at the plate with an RBI along with the go-ahead homer.

 

Up Next

The Spires will play Lourdes University for game two at 1 p.m. central time on Friday in Viera, Florida.
