Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball concluded their series to open KCAC play against Sterling College, resulting in a 14-0 loss and a 5-4 win over the Warriors. The Spires are now 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.
Game One
Saint Mary gave the Warriors an early lead in game one, giving up five runs in the first and four in the second inning. In the top of the third, the Spires threatened to score after Noah Parra doubled down the right field line to put runners on second and third with two outs. However, both runners were stranded, and the inning ended with Saint Mary still down 9-0. After giving up two more runs in the bottom part of the inning, the Sterling lead was 11-0. The Spires left three more runners on base to end the fifth, unable to get any runs across the plate. Game one ended in seven innings after USM gave up three more runs in the last three innings, making the final score 14-0.
Game Two
Saint Mary was able to right the ship in game two, striking first in the top of the second after an RBI single from Keaton Herron. In the third inning, singles from Brendan Roop and Wyatt Lowry gave the Spires a 3-0 lead. Starter Noah Parra threw four solid innings for Saint Mary, giving up one run. Sterling got a run back in the fourth inning after an RBI double to make the score 3-1 in favor of USM. Roop answered in the top half of the fifth with a solo home run to restore the three-run lead. The Warriors got two more runs across in the fifth, coming within one of the Spires. In the sixth inning, Caleb McClellan drove in what would be the deciding run with a single to right field. Jacob Castaneda can in to close things out for Saint Mary, recording a two-inning save and securing the 5-4 win over the Warriors. Roop led the Spires in game two, going two for four with two RBIs and two runs.

Saint Mary will host Avila University for a mid-week matchup at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
