Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team took on Sterling College for a weekend doubleheader against Sterling on Sunday, winning both games 12-5 and 7-5. The Spires are now 22-25 overall and 5-17 in the KCAC.
Game One
Saint Mary got on the board first, taking advantage of a passed ball by the Warriors catcher. Sterling answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1.
Later, the Spires had a big third inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Allyson Dias and Delaney Hess each hit singles and drove in runs, then Natalie Bruce was able to clear the bases with a triple down the left-field line. An error bt the Warriors let two more Spire runs across the plate to make it 8-1 in favor of Saint Mary.
Sterling had a four-run bottom half of the third to keep things close but runs in the fifth and seventh sealed game one for the Spires, winning 12-5.
Game Two
A double to left field in the first got things going for Sterling and gave them an early 3-0 lead. In the top of the second, Tatiana Halupa drove in two runs after a single to right center, bringing the Spires within one run.
Another run in the fourth made it 4-2 Sterling, but RBI singles from Jessica Strandlund and Audrey Spellman tied the game at four. Saint Mary took their first lead of the game in the fifth, getting two more runs off of RBI singles.
Bruce drove Spellman in the top of the seventh to make the score 7-4. Starter Allie Cox went the complete game helping Saint Mary get the 7-5 win.

The Spires will conclude the regular season against Bethel College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
