Ottawa, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team took on the Ottawa Braves for game three of their weekday series, resulting in a 5-4 loss. The Spire's overall record is now 18-29 and 10-20 in the KCAC.
In the series finale, the long ball took center stage, with five of the nine runs scored coming via home runs.
Ottawa opened the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Jack Knutson homered in the fourth, and Caleb McClellan followed him in the fifth with another bomb to make it 2-1 in favor of the Spires. The Braves answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single to tie things up at two.
Jordan McClellan gave Saint Mary their second lead of the day with another homer run for the Spires to make it 3-2. However, put up two runs in the sixth to make it a 4-3 game.
Aidan Hartig hit the fourth and final home run of the day for the Spires, but the Braves got one more run in the seventh and held on to win 5-4.
Caleb McClellan led the Spires at the plate, going three for four with an RBI and a run scored.
