Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Spires Score Late to Tie With Coyotes

Salina, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team took on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Saturday, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The Spire's overall record is now 3-5-3 and 2-3-1 in the KCAC.

Following an early shot by Romario Harding that went wide right, Kansas Wesleyan responded with a goal to go up 1-0 in the 13th minute. Later in the half, a crucial yellow card on Saint Mary granted the Coyotes a penalty kick, extending their lead to 2-0. The Spires, however, were unfazed as Marco Vernazza assisted Romario Harding with a goal just two minutes later to cut the Coyote lead in half. Abdul Omar looked to tie things up with a corner kick right before halftime but couldn't find an open teammate.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Harding found Omar for a goal to knot the game at two a piece. As teams traded shots back and forth, both goalies came up big with crucial saves. The game came down to a late shot from Kansas Wesleyan that flew too high, ending in a 2-2 tie. Alec Scharff recorded three saves on the night.
