Spires Cannot Keep Up With Braves

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team hosted the Ottawa Braves for a conference matchup on Wednesday, resulting in an 89-77 loss. The Spires are now 9-6 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Deshaud St. Martin scored the first eight points for Saint Mary to take an early lead. Jordan Brown and Kaden Bonner added to the lead with layups of their own. Ottawa responded with a 15-3 scoring run to take the lead and did not look back, outscoring the Spires 42-25 in the first half.

After the break, Joey Schultz and Tre Alexander immediately put pressure on the Braves with multiple layups to make it a 14-point game. Threes from Demarius Houston, Blake Chadwick, and Brown brought Saint Mary within 10 points of the lead with 15 minutes left in the game. However, Ottawa kept up the scoring and maintained a nine to 11-point lead throughout the second half. As time wound down, Saint Mary could not mount a comeback and fell 86-74.
