Kansas City, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team traveled to take on the Avila Eagles on Saturday, resulting in an 88-69 win. The Spires are now 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the KCAC.
After securing an away win at York, the Spires were eager to continue their win streak on the road. After a slow first five minutes, Tysen Brennen's entrance off the bench sparked immediate energy as he went three for three from the three-point line, helping Saint Mary take the lead with ten minutes to go. The Spires went on an 8-1 run and pulled away from the opposition as play continued. Saint Mary had a 17-point lead over the Eagles heading into the break, leading 42-25. Joey Schultz and Tysen Brennan were the Spires' leading scorers, with 11 and nine points, respectively.
Avila came out in the second half, looking to close the distance on Saint Mary's lead. However, the Spire's offense proved relentless as Kaden Bonner put on a spectacular performance, sinking four consecutive three-pointers to ensure USM remained in control of the game. Saint Mary continued to apply offensive pressure, which seemed too much for the Eagles to handle. The Spires made 15 threes throughout the game, securing an 88-69 away win. Bonner led Saint Mary in scoring with a season-high 22 points, while Jordan Brown had 16 points with seven rebounds.
