York, Neb.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Wrestling team took on York University in a team dual on Friday, resulting in a 22-17 win. The Spires are now 4-1 in team duals this season.
Saint Mary left the 101 weight class open, going down 5-0 to start the dual. Alexsys Jacquez (109) got the Spires on the board after winning by technical fall to make it 5-4. Angie Rediger gave USM five more points because York left the weight class vacant. After a double vacant 123 weight class, Alisha Van Scoy (130) won the following match by fall to give Saint Mary a 14-5 lead over the Panthers.
A loss in the 136 weight class brought York back within striking distance of the lead. Ariana Mercado (143) and Rebekah Koolstra (155) protected the lead with wins; Mercado won her match 10-0 by tech fall. York attempted to retake the lead by winning in the 170 and 191 weight classes, but the late wins were not enough, as the Spires took the 22-17 win.
