Final Second Goal Leads to 3-2 Loss against Friends

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary men's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 road match against Friends University in a thrilling second half. After a scoreless first half, Daniel Castro gave the Spires a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. Friends responded with goals from Caique Pereira in the 63rd minute and Pedro Matos in the 72nd minute to take a 2-1 advantage.

Saint Mary found life in the 82nd minute when Thomas Peralta netted an equalizer, tying the game 2-2 with just eight minutes left. However, Friends' Jose Quiel scored the decisive goal in the final 15 seconds, sealing the 3-2 victory for the home team. Despite the loss, the match was closely contested, with Friends taking 10 shots and Saint Mary tallying 17. 

 

Up Next:

The Spires are now 5-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play. They will look to bounce back in conference action at home against Kansas Wesleyan this Saturday at 3:30 PM.
