Women's Flag Football Drops Home Opener to KWU

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted Kansas Wesleyan in their home opener on Sunday, resulting in a 32-6 loss. The Spires are now 0-2 to start the year.

The Spires scored on their opening drive after forcing the Coyotes to go three-and-out. Cheyenne Brooks hit Kerisma Delgado for an 18-yard touchdown pass to take the lead over Kansas Wesleyan. A failed point after attempt made it 6-0 with two minutes left in the first quarter. The Saint Mary defense held again and gave the ball back to the Spires offense. However, USM failed a fourth down conversion on the Coyote's six-yard line, turning the ball over on downs. Kansas Wesleyan scored two touchdowns right before the end of the half to take a 13-6 lead over the Spires.

Saint Mary was not able to match the offensive output of Kansas Wesleyan, giving up 19 unanswered points.

Sade Ervin led the Spires in receiving yards with 68 on seven catches.
