Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted the Midland Warriors on Wednesday, resulting in a 4-14 loss. The Spires are now 2-8 overall and 1-8 in the KCAC.
Midland took an early lead, scoring in six plays to take a 7-0 lead. After a short drive that stalled for Saint Mary, the Warriors scored on the very next play with a 39-yard touchdown pass to make it a two-score game. The Spires responded with a scoring drive at the tail end of the first quarter. Cheyenne Brooks hit Iyana Harris for the Spire's first touchdown of the day to cut the Midland lead in half. The Saint Mary defense held string on the ensuing drive, forcing the Warriors to punt. With under eight minutes to go in the half, Brook threw her second touchdown pass of the day to Trinity Scott to tie the game up at 14. However, Midland responded on the following drive to retake the lead at 21-14.
After the break, the Spires were not able to put more points on the board. Turnover plagued Saint Mary in the second half, which allowed the Warriors to solidify their lead and run away with the win. Brooks finished the day with over 300 passing yards, a new career high, and 23 completions.
