Lamoni, Iowa.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team concluded their weekend series of games on the road against Mayville State and Graceland, resulting in a 10-7 win and a 7-4 loss. The Spires are now 10-10 on the year.
Game One
Against Mayville in game one, Andrew Richardson got the start but was not able to make it out of the early innings, giving up four runs in two and two-thirds innings. Being down 4-1 meant that the Spires would have come from behind to take game one. Kruz Wahwahsuck and Caleb McClellan each hit singles in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-3 ball game. However, Mayville State answered in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-3 lead. With their last chance to take the lead, Saint Mary posted a seven-run inning, with RBIs from three different Spires, including four from Eli Prine, who hit a grand slam to give them a lead. Jacob Castaneda came in to close the book against Mayville State, recording his seventh save of the year.
Game Two
Noah Parra started on the hill against Graceland in game two, throwing all six innings for the Spires. Saint Mary took a slight 2-0 lead, scoring runs in the first two innings of play coming from Ben Brandt and Bryce Turner. The Yellowjackets responded with a one-run third inning and a four-run fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead over the Spires. Brendan Roop drove in a run in the sixth to make it a two-run ball game. Later in the sixth, A dropped third strike allowed Prine to score from third to come within one run of Graceland. A two-run bottom half of the sixth for the Yellowjackets put the game out of reach for the Spires, who were retired in order in the top of the seventh innings, losing 7-4.
