Football falls to McPherson 38-10

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary Spires fell to the McPherson Bulldogs 38-10 in today's Hall of Fame Game at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium. McPherson jumped out to an early lead, scoring 21 unanswered points by halftime, setting the tone for the contest. The Spires struggled to find rhythm offensively until late in the third quarter when Cesar Vela connected with Michael Gazzana for a 6-yard touchdown pass, their first score of the game.
 

Despite the lopsided score, the Spires managed a 43% third-down conversion rate and kept possession time close to even with McPherson. Defensively, USM forced one turnover and tallied three sacks along with nine tackles for loss, led by Jaxon Curtis, the team's leading tackler. Quarterback Cesar Vela, in his second consecutive start, finished the game 19-37 for 217 yards and one touchdown. Though the Spires showed moments of promise, McPherson's early dominance proved too much to overcome.
