LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team displayed resilience and firepower on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back from a sluggish first quarter to secure a commanding 79-66 victory over Bethany College. The win improves the Spires to 9-11 overall and 8-6 in KCAC play.
Saint Mary started slow, trailing 15-11 after the first quarter, but erupted in the second, scoring 26 points to take control of the game. The Spires carried a four-point lead into halftime and used consistent offense and tough defense to extend their advantage in the second half.
The Spires' sharp three-point shooting, hitting 10 triples, paired with their unselfish ball movement, highlighted their balanced attack. They also controlled the boards and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, demonstrating grit and determination on their home court.
Saint Mary's bench provided a strong spark, ensuring the team kept momentum throughout the contest. The Spires' ability to limit mistakes and stay poised in critical moments allowed them to pull away late in the fourth quarter, securing their largest lead of 13 points with less than a minute remaining.
