Hannibal, Mo.—University of Saint Mary Spires faced the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans at the Mabee Sports Complex in Hannibal, Missouri. The Spires dominated taking all three sets and securing a final score of 3-0.
USM took control from the first serve, they went on to absolutely put on a clinic the first set with a commanding 25-9 win. The initial set showcased exceptional performances, particularly from
Emma Scalise, who registered 9 kills throughout the match.
MJ Stephens and
Sophia Frerking also contributed significantly to the offensive efforts.
The second set was more competitive, but USM maintained their lead and wrapped up the set with a 25-20 score. Defensive plays were crucial, with significant contributions from players like
Saige Hadley,
Chloe Byrd, and
Makenza Holly. Stephens and Frerking were instrumental defensively, each adding block assists that stifled the Trojans' attempts to rally.
The third and final set saw the Spires return to their aggressive form, overwhelming Hannibal-LaGrange again with a score of 25-8. The defensive prowess was supported by
Daniela Rivera-Perez, who led the team with 7 digs, followed closely by
Gabby Kurle and
Morgan Herrera. Additionally, the team displayed strong serving, with Rivera-Perez and
Addison Baker each notching 3 aces.
The Saint Mary Spires are currently in Canton, Missouri facing the Stephens College Stars this morning at 11:30 a.m. and following will compete against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats at 1:30 p.m.
