York, Neb.--Â In another long road trip, Spire soccer faced off against the Panthers on Saturday, October 18th at York, Neb., unfortunately the final score was not in our favor as USM faced a tough defeat against the Panthers with a final score of 2-0. Despite a strong defensive stand, the Spires couldn't find the back of the net, leading to their current record standing at 5-5-4 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play.
The game began with an early lead for the Panthers as Ellie Reynolds scored the first goal at 10:19, assisted by Harumi Cornejo. The Spires tried to respond but were held at bay throughout the first half, concluding with York NE leading 1-0. The second half continued with considerable efforts from the Spires to equalize, doubling their shot attempts on the afternoon (four in the second half). Frustratingly, momentum stayed with the Panthers when Harumi Cornejo increased their lead at 74:05 with a goal, once again assisted by Gracie Reynolds.
The goalkeeping duo of
Avah Casarez for the Spires, and Sofia Falcao for York contributed crucial saves that shaped the flow of play.
