Kansas City, Mo.--Spire volleyball triumphed over the Avila Eagles with a final score of 3-1 in their KCAC contest on Wednesday, October 22nd at the Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo.
The first set saw the Spires take a commanding lead, ending with a score of 25-16. USM maintained momentum into the second set, closing it quickly at 25-18. Despite the Eagles rally to win the third set 27-25, the Spires dominantly clinched the fourth set 25-14, sealing their victory in the match. This win advances the Spires' season record to 19-7 overall and 6-2 in the KCAC, putting them in an excellent position in the standings at fourth behind McPherson College, Evangel University, and Oklahoma Wesleyan University, respectively.
Key players for Saint Mary included familiar faces in
Saige Hadley, who led with 14 kills, followed by
Makenza Holly with 8 and
Emma Murphy with 5. Murphy also dominated defensively, contributing 4 blocks, alongside
Emma Scalise and
Sammy Jo Kirk who each added 2. The defensive efforts were further bolstered by
Gabby Kurle with a match-high 23 digs. On the service line,
Daniela Rivera-Perez stood out with 5 aces.
The Spires again showed a well-rounded team effort with contributions across the board. Assist leaders were
Addison Baker with 20 and
Morgan Herrera with 17, helping set up critical plays throughout the evening. The Spires are set for hit the road on Saturday, October 25
th in a tri against the Sterling College Warriors and Haskell Indian Nations hosted at Sterling College (Kansas).
