Spires Overpower the Evangel Valor in Springfield

Springfield, Mo.—The Spires traveled to Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday, October 29th to take on fellow KCAC opponent the Evangel University Valor in what will wrap up to be the last week of regular season play before the excitement of post-season begins. Spire women came away with a strong 2-Nil win on a very chilly October evening.

Junior midfielder, Diana Aguilar, was the lone Spire to score in the match on an unassisted goal right out of the gates with 43 minutes remaining in the first half. USM would then be awarded an "own goal" from the Valor that would send a confident Spires squad into the half with a 2-0 lead.'

Avah Casarez, junior goalkeeper from Rancho Cordova, California had yet another clean stat sheet, recording 6 saves through 90 minutes against an aggressive Evangel offense who put up 10 shots, 7 of those coming in the first half. Notably, the Spires have posted back-to-back shut outs with Casarez at the helm, stepping up at a crucial point in the year as post-season play lurks just around the corner.

USM now turns their focus to Saturday, November 1st as they travel to North Newton, Kansas to take on the Bethel College Threshers in the last regular season match. Your Spire women's soccer team currently has a record of 7-5-5 and 5-3-4 in KCAC play, placing them at #5 in the KCAC standings.
