Leavenworth, Kan.--Spire basketball dominated the Midland Warriors in USM's 25-26 season home opener on Tuesday, November 4
th where USM secured a decisive 79-65 victory in Ryan Sports Center. The Spires are truly clicking right now in what is still a very early season with tonight marking their third straight win bringing their current record to 3-0.
The game started off aggressive in the first half where the Spires took an early lead, thanks in large part to stellar plays by
Cam Edwards. USM was ahead by as much as 7 points in the opening half. However, the warriors attempted a strong comeback, only for the Spires to finish the first half slightly with a nail-biting 30-29 score going into halftime.
The second half started dominant for the Spires with
Cam Edwards and
Jordan Brown hitting key shots that allowed Saint Mary to extend their lead substantially. The Spires' defense was particularly effective, stifling Midland's attacks and contributing to turnovers and several fast-break points. By the end of the game, Saint Mary had widened their gap to 14 points, ending the game at 79-65.
Cam Edwards had a breakout night, scoring a game-high 24 points, dishing out 5 assists, and securing 3 steals.
Jordan Brown also had a significant impact with 18 points, including crucial three-pointers. Notably,
Terrius Walker contributed immensely on the defensive end with 11 rebounds and a block.
The Spires will hit the road again this weekend to continue their season at the Ernie Stevens Classic against Baker University in Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday, November 7
th with a 5:30 tip-off.
