Leavenworth, Kan.--In the 2025-2026 season home opener in Ryan Sports Center on Tuesday, November 4
th the University of Saint Mary Spires, led by performances from
Saige Grampsas and
Addison Schletzbaum, secured a victorious 76-58 win against the Graceland Yellowjackets.
The game tipped off with Graceland establishing a quick early lead, courtesy of Kayla Smolley's 3-pointer. Graceland's Maxine Ampofo further capitalized in the paint, securing multiple layups and pushing their lead to 14 points in the first quarter, which ended with a 24-12 advantage for the Yellowjackets. However, the tables turned in the second as the Spires, fueled by aggressive 3-point shooting and stalwart defensive rebounds, closed the gap with a halftime score leveled at 31-31.
Entering the third, the Spires' bench came alive, contributing significantly to regain control of the game. Major defensive stops, including vital steals and quick fast breaks, pushed USM ahead confidently, marking the end of the third quarter with a 55-43 lead. The final quarter showcased the Spires strengthening their hold, culminating in a commanding 76-58 finale. Top contributors included senior
